         Wes Stud

Wesley "Wes" Studi is a Native American (Cherokee) Actor who has expressed his native culture through film. His amazing portals of his characters has changed the modern stereotypes society has placed on Native Americans. His most known performances are his roles in "Dancing with Wolves", "The last of the Mohicans", "Geronimo", "Heat", and "Avatar". Until he was five he only spoke his native Cherokee language. He attended the Chicolo Indian Boarding School in Northern Oklahoma, but unlike many Native American students he never forget his language. After his time in the U.S military he became very politically involved with Native American issues, such as joining the AIM (American Indian Movement) and participated in the Trail of Broken Treaties and Bureau Of Indian Affairs protests. Wes soon moved towards looking for a positive way of change besides through protesting. He then helped publish the Cherokee Phoenix (a bilingual newspaper). He also began teaching his native Cherokee language. As his acting career took off he became known for his roles of Native American characters portraying them with authenticity. Not only did Wes Studi act, but he also has written a children book "The Adventures of Billy Bean" for the Cherokee Bilingual/ Cross Cultural Center. He still continues to to benefit society through his Native American influence.
