Human Trafficking research

What problem did you learn about? what are the factors causing this problem?
- 25000 Southeastern europeans are victims to trafficking
- in violent rural areas where alcoholism and high unemployment where people are more vulnerable to trafficking
-offered "jobs" (boutique) then sold
-promises escaping their poverty stricken country to work as waitresses, receptionist, etc.
-domestic violence(cause)
-some sold by families for as little as 600 euros.

Consequences:
-physochological consquences to victims (don't talk)
-Girl who disappear overnight are sometimes promised chance to earn decent and honest living and when they return years later are shunned by the community and sometimes family (think prostitute but the girls weren't given a choice)
-Gov. of moldova doesn't fully comply with minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking (corruption of judicial sector, no security, victims and witenesses sometimes threatened, hearings are delayed and prosecutors don't contact victims)

Understanding and why it matters:
Through this research I have seen the lack of morality in the world. Women and children are being sold daily into sex trafficking and we are living our lives and turning away from the problems as if they didn't exist.  It is hard to believe that situations like this are happening in todays world and especially in Europe. This matters in todays world because peoples lives are changing forever and affecting them in catastrophic ways, and not only that but some of these criminals are getting away with these horrific acts. This has brought me to an understanding of how vital it is to know of the problems of the world because we can never solve them if we don't know about them.
