Daughters of MLK and George Wallace completing MLK's Dream Today during MLK community time the guest speaker who came in was Peggy Wallace Kennedy. She was the daughter of George Wallace the governor of Alabama during the Civil Rights Era. He is well known for his inaugural speech saying, "Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever". Many do not know about how his reputation affected his own daughter though. Before her father ran for governor she spoke of how in his court he demanded all to respect African Americans and how he even invited them into his office to eat so they would not sit segregated like in cafés. But his moderate racist could not win him the office of governor in Alabama, so he ran as a racists candidate and won. Every persons past history makes up apart of who they are. Who your ancestors are and what they did impact your life somehow, such as moving to the country where you grew up, religion, or cultural influences, etc. In the movie Smoke Signals  both Victor and Thomas are influenced by their Native American past. Victor strives to follow in the path of the Indian warrior while Thomas plays more of the Storyteller role. These cultural ancestry footprints they walk in are not only apart of their history going centuries back, but have become stereotypes that they are striving to follow as well. Society's mark on who they should be transforms how they see themselves losing all meaning of who they are. They are following a trail that has 2 different direction society vs. history.           Wes Stud i  Wesley "Wes" Studi is a Native American (Cherokee) Actor who has expressed his native culture through film. His amazing portals of his characters has changed the modern stereotypes society has placed on Native Americans. His most known performances are his roles in "Dancing with Wolves", "The last of the Mohicans", "Geronimo", "Heat", and "Avatar". Until he was five he only spoke his native Cherokee language. He attended the Chicolo Indian Boarding School in Northern Oklahoma, but unlike many Native American students he never forget his language. After his time in the U.S military he became very politically involved with Native American issues, such as joining the AIM (American Indian Movement) and participated in the Trail of Broken Treaties and Bureau Of Indian Affairs protests. The murderer   The Dallas Daily Herald was sent out everyday to the citizens of Dallas. Majority of the document focuses on local issues rather than national news. Apparently, it was a very dramatic town. In one issue their was a gun fight between a barkeeper and a porter because one called the other one a liar. On the same day a young man named Pat shot himself in the head and "blew his brains out" because of conflict with his brother. The largest story of the paper was about a man named, Herald Offick (sketch shown above) who was sentenced to death for allegedly murdering his step-mother. In the issue the newspaper printed a statement he had written to be published so the world could hear what he had to say. Until death he proclaimed he was innocent. When he was sentenced he said, "You may hang me, but you will hang the wrong man." After this extravagant news the newspaper continued saying that the weather was spring like and farmers should continue working ...
